In 2019, the Office of Workforce Transformation took a new direction under the leadership of Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted. Under their direction the office is working to make Ohio the most innovative, creative, and entrepreneurial state in the Midwest.
Jon Husted is the 66th and current Lt. Governor of Ohio, a position he has held since his inauguration in January of 2019. As Lt. Governor, Husted leads the Office of Workforce Transformation, which works to identify the needs of Ohio businesses and align workers' skills with those needs to close the skills gap and get more people into rewarding careers.
In addition to the Office of Workforce Transformation, the Lt. Governor oversees the Common Sense Initiative (CSI), which helps ease regulatory burdens on businesses in Ohio by working to eliminate burdensome regulations that hinder economic growth and job creation. Husted also leads InnovateOhio, an effort to modernize state government, improve customer service, and save tax dollars.
Prior to his election as Lt. Governor, Husted served as Ohio's Secretary of State where he presided over elections in the critical swing state as well as oversaw Ohio's business filing center. During his eight-year tenure in the office, then-Secretary Husted used technology to revolutionize the way businesses and entrepreneurs interact with the state government. The efficiencies allowed Husted to improve customer service, reducing the average time to register a new business from days or even weeks to just a few hours.
The move also significantly reduced costs in the Secretary of State's Office, which Husted passed along to Ohio's businesses by cutting the fee for starting and maintaining a business by 21%, making Ohio the least costly state in the Midwest for entrepreneurs. For the remaining two years of his term, Secretary Husted ran the office entirely without tax dollars and returned his remaining $10 million surplus to the treasury before leaving office.
Jon Husted also served in the state legislature, both House and Senate, where his colleagues twice unanimously elected him to serve as Speaker of the House. As Speaker, Husted shepherded what was hailed as the most conservative state budget in decades, which included what was at the time, the largest income tax cut in Ohio's history.
Of all his responsibilities, Lt. Governor Husted considers his most important role as that of husband to his wife, Tina, and father to Alex, Katie, and Kylie.
